Vice Mayor Angelique Ashby was elected to office in the June 2010 primary and was sworn-in to office in November 2010. She currently serves as the Councilmember for District 1, representing North Natomas.
Angelique has deep roots in the City of Sacramento. She is a graduate of Sacramento High School andobtained her B.A in Sociology with an emphasis on Law and Society from the University of California at Davis and her Juris Doctorate from the McGeorge School of Law. Angelique owns a consulting firm with her dad, Patric Ashby, in which they build programs for populations with barriers to success. She, along with her husband and three children, live in Natomas where she served as President of the Creekside Neighborhood Association for several years during which time she established a notable history in community leadership and activism. As part of her Council responsibilities, Angelique serves on 12 different boards and committees, including serving as Vice Chair for the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA) and Vice Chair for the Sacramento Public Library Authority.
Since her time on the City Council, Vice Mayor Ashby has been recognized for her energetic civic
engagement and has received several notable accolades, some of which includes being selected in 2012 as a recipient of Sacramento Business Journal’s 40 under 40 List which recognizes local contributors to the civic health of the Sacramento region through volunteer work and more. She was also named the 5th Assembly District’s 2012 “Woman of the Year” by Assemblymember Dr. Richard Pan who selected her for her outstanding public service accomplishments. Most recently, in July 2013, she was nominated by Sacramento News & Review as part of the “Best of Sacramento” in the category of “Best Public Servant”.
In January 2012, and again in January 2013 (an unprecedented occurrence in the Council’s history)
Angelique’s colleagues on the City Council elected her Vice Mayor of Sacramento for two consecutive
terms.
